Leslie Rosenkrans, Melinda James and Pam Spoor were guests to present a program about the newly formed Monroe County Cancer Supporters. Leslie explained how the group was formed after determining that there was a need for unmet expenses and services for those experiencing cancer which other organizations do not meet. The sole purpose of the group is to assist cancer victims and their families in any way. Those with little or no family for support, or not enough insurance to cover extra costs are some of who the group are wanting to help. Besides monetary support the, the group offers personal assistance, such as lawn mowing, rides to treatment, relief for a family caregiver, errands, etc. The only requirement is to be a citizen of Monroe County. The Monroe County Cancer Supporters is a non-profit entity. Any donations are tax deductible. They are not in competition with Relay for Life of American Cancer Society.
Following their informative program, a motion was made to donate the money from the drawing to their organization.
The next meeting will be April 27 in Santa Fe.
